ANA Neighborhood Meeting

19 September 2006

7:00 p.m. - Armatage Park

Andy Luger – a first time candidate for Hennepin County Attorney. Spoke to all about his experience as a federal prosecutor and work in the criminal justice system. Presented his priorities for the position if elected.

Café Maude – Kevin Sheehy & Jenny gave an update on the new business they are planning to open at 5411 Penn Ave. Kevin read a letter sent to the city that stated their business plan (coffee shop, deli and after 5:00pm a wine bar & bistro) and their mission statement (to provide a unique product and service to the community). They are going forward with a request for a full liquor license. The parking lot will be redone and include 25 spaces for cars.

5424 Newton – this property is a tear down. The builder sent an informational letter to the ANA stating that a 1-_ story craftsman house would be built at this address.

City Council Update – (Jennifer took these notes). Update given by Ben Hecker.

Secretary Report – A motion to approve the Secretary’s report as written was unanimously passed.

Treasurer Report - Denis was unable to attend, but forwarded this information: $2,507 in the NRP account, and $9,605 in the income account.

Better Ballot Vote – discussed presentation of this process from August neighborhood meeting. This process would save the city money (eliminate primary), and would apply to city offices only. A motion to support the Better Ballot campaign passed, one vote opposed.

NRP Policy Board Election – The ANA needs to select a representative and an alternate to attend the NRP meeting on November 16th. Jennifer will send the board an email with the details and the request for attendees.

Code of Conduct – The NRP provided the ANA with a suggested code of conduct that could be posted at ANA meetings. The board will review.

Summer Festival – Katie Murphy and Jennifer gave an overview of our successful festival. Suggestions we agreed on: continue free food if a sponsor could be found, having festival on a weekday evening worked well, focus silent auction on local and neighborhood businesses, flyer sent to all neighbors was too expensive – try a postcard or eliminate mailing, possibly coordinate event with Maude Days (Café Maude).

Sherwin Williams Program – discount card offered at summer festival could provide the ANA with a small kickback.

Minneapolis Park Survey – Jerry Peterson (park director) reminded all to complete a Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board survey. Surveys should be left in collection box at the front desk.

Blue Sky Books – new 2007 books are for sale - $20. There are a few books from last year which expire soon that are available for free.

Armatage School Sign – Chris Blumenfeld (Armatage School PTA Chair) informed the ANA that the school plans on starting a project to purchase a school sign. She will keep the neighborhood informed of the progress of the project.

A motion to adjourn the meeting unanimously passed.

Respectfully submitted,

Daniel Beskar, Secretary

Noah Schuchmann, President
