Armatage Neighborhood Association
Armatage
Neighborhood Association meets
bi-monthly to hear and address
neighborhood news, projects, and events.
The ANA has a number of committees that
handle neighborhood business. Examples
are a committee that organizes
neighborhood festivals, a committee that
works with police on safety issues, and
a park/school committee that works on
needed facility updates.
There
are always free refreshments and
childcare at the neighborhood meetings.
The ANA meetings are held in the park
building at 57th and Russell and all are
open to the public. The meeting schedule
for 2007 is listed below.
The
Armatage Neighborhood Association has
established an e-mail announcement-only
list to notify residents about upcoming
neighborhood meetings and events. To
join the list go to:

ANA - Phase II Committees
When you attend the ANA general
meetings on the third Tuesday of
the month, you are working
together with your neighbors to
form a powerful force for
neighborhood stability and
planned change.
The ANA also has open committees
for residents to participate in
and bring the Phase II
strategies to life. Whether you
are new to the neighborhood or
have lived here for many years,
now is a great time to get
involved!
Here are the committee
opportunities:
2008 Summer Festival
Volunteers are needed. Contact
Jennifer Swanson at
sjnzo@usfamily.net if you
are interested in participating.
Safety Committee
The safety committee would
assist with the planning and
implementation of the following
programs:
* Increase neighborhood safety -
work with existing city programs
or create new neighborhood
programs to provide information,
training, and equipment to
promote both public and personal
safety.
* Increase the level of traffic
safety on neighborhood streets
and alleys - Implement a program
to encourage responsible driving
in our neighborhood.
* Increase communication between
neighbors on blocks and between
blocks and the ANA - the Phase
II plan has a 'Know Your
Neighbor' Program to encourage
neighborhood involvement and
increase neighborhood spirit.

Teens-Time to
think about summer jobs!
Even with a chill in the air, now’s the time for
youth to think about making the most of their
2008 summer. The deadline to apply for a summer
job through the
Minneapolis STEP UP youth summer jobs
program is Jan. 11. More than 2,050 Minneapolis
youth were employed in 2007 through STEP UP and
the City hopes to employ even more in 2008.
These summer experiences are valuable to both
employers and employees. Ninety-three percent of
supervisors felt their intern made a valuable
contribution to their workplace, and 95 percent
of the young people said their summer job was a
valuable learning experience. Youth can pick up
STEP UP applications in the career and college
centers in Minneapolis public high schools or at
city libraries. Applications are also available
online at
www.achieveminneapolis.org/programs/stepUp_students.html.
